On May 9, 2026, Pilimmaksaivik, the Federal Centre of Excellence for Inuit Employment in Nunavut, celebrates its 10th anniversary. 

Since its creation in 2016, Pilimmaksaivik has worked with partners to support the Whole-of-Government implementation of Article 23 in the Nunavut Agreement to increase and maintain Inuit representation in the federal public service in Nunavut.

Sturgeon lake first nation opening birthing and childrearing lodge

Today, the Sturgeon Lake First Nation, in partnership with Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), celebrated the grand opening of the Shirley Bighead Nihtāwiki and Ohpikihāwasowin Birthing and Childrearing Lodge. The purpose of the lodge is to provide mothers from Sturgeon Lake First Nation with the opportunity to give birth closer to home and in accordance with Cree tradition and ceremony.
