Province Recognizes National AccessAbility Week

The Government of Saskatchewan is proud to proclaim May 25 to May 31, 2025, as National AccessAbility week, in

partnership with Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan (SCI Saskatchewan). This week recognizes the leadership and contributions of persons with disabilities and raises awareness of accessibility and inclusion across the province.

"National AccessAbility Week is an opportunity to celebrate the many ways persons with disabilities strengthen our province," Social Services Minister Terry Jenson said. "Removing barriers for persons with disabilities benefits us all. Our government has a plan to move us forward in creating a more inclusive Saskatchewan, where everyone regardless of ability can fully participate in their communities."

SCI Saskatchewan is a community-based organization that promotes independence, self-reliance and full community participation for individuals with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities. Through peer support, education, advocacy and service navigation, SCI Saskatchewan helps people overcome barriers and achieve greater inclusion and quality of life.

"Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan continues to celebrate National AccessAbility Week and acknowledges progress while realizing there are still barriers to overcome," Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan Inc. Executive Director Delynne Bortis said.  "Ensuring that accessibility is a foundation rather than an accommodation will foster truly inclusive communities, opening the door for opportunity, dignity and full societal participation for everyone."

On December 3, 2024, the Government of Saskatchewan released its first Accessibility Plan to improve the accessibility of government services. Over the next three years, government will provide leadership on accessibility and inclusion in the province; work to improve knowledge and awareness to support a diverse and inclusive workforce; and enhance the accessibility of digital content, provincial parks and government buildings.
