The Government of Canada supports Théâtre Jean-Duceppe

MONTRÉAL, August 24, 2026

Our arts and cultural organizations are the beating heart of our communities and enable Canadians to discover and experience art and culture close to home. For more than 50 years, the Compagnie Jean Duceppe has played a central role in Quebec’s theatre scene, presenting works that bring people together and providing a premier showcase for plays that reflect the realities and cultural heritage of Quebecers.

Today, the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture and Minister

responsible for Official Languages, announced $1.2 million in funding for the Compagnie Jean Duceppe to support the modernization of its venues.

This funding, provided through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, will be used to set up a new rehearsal, creation and performance space that meets professional standards. The improvements will provide artists with an optimal working environment, as well as better reception and access conditions for the public.

Quick facts

• The Compagnie Jean Duceppe, founded in 1973, is a non-profit artistic organization whose mission is to create, produce and present contemporary theatre performances in Montréal and throughout Quebec, primarily through its tours.

• Each year, the organization offers a theatre season with approximately 250 performances, reaching over 100,000 spectators. In addition to presenting five major productions, successful revivals and short formats, it offers a significant number of performances on tour in regional venues across Quebec. Finally, the Théâtre Jean‑Duceppe collaborates with other theatre companies to offer co-productions, many of which showcase emerging artists.
