Canada -The Honourable Dr. Scott Reid, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, today announced $4.95 million for the first recipients of the 2025-28 Climate Change Challenge Fund for initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
This funding will help support 38 entities across Newfoundland and Labrador, which include not-for-profit organizations, private business, public bodies or boards, municipal governments and Indigenous organizations, transition to greener, more cost effective, and more efficient operations.

The Climate Change Challenge Fund has a total investment of $12 million to combat
climate change. It is a competitive, application-based grant program that encourages entities to improve energy efficiency, create economic growth, and effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions in in the province.Projects fall under one or more of the following target areas:
- Energy efficiency that results in reduced fossil fuel use;
- Fuel switching to reduce emissions;
- Process changes in the industrial sector;
- Adoption of new technologies that displace or eliminate on-site greenhouse gas emissions; and
- Carbon sequestration in agriculture and forestry sectors.
A second opportunity for applications to the Climate Change Challenge Fund will be announced in the coming months.
