Minister Anand to welcome Turkish counterpart to Canada

The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she would welcome Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, to Canada on June 25 and 26, 2026.

Building on their most recent meeting in Ankara, in March 2026, the ministers will engage in

discussions toward a strengthened partnership between Canada and Türkiye. They will also discuss their respective countries’ priorities and positions on a broad range of topics ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit, which will take place in Ankara on July 7 and 8, 2026.

The ministers will also exchange views on global and regional geopolitical issues, including Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the situation in the Middle East, and explore opportunities for robust economic engagement in sectors such as energy, defence, aerospace and mining.

Quick facts

  • This visit will mark Minister Fidan’s first bilateral visit to Canada since his appointment in June 2023. 

  • Canada and Türkiye are NATO Allies and have longstanding diplomatic relations. Both countries work closely together on today’s most pressing global challenges through a number of multilateral forums, including the G20, NATO, the International Civil Aviation Organization, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

  • Türkiye is a country of broad commercial interest to Canada. In 2025, two-way merchandise trade was $4.3 billion. Canadian merchandise exports totalled $1.1 billion while imports from Türkiye added up to $3.2 billion.
