On Saturday, the Honourable Adam van Koeverden, Secretary of State (Sport), and Canada’s FIFA Sherpa, held bilateral meetings with Minister of Sport Adjé Silas Metch of Côte d’Ivoire and State Minister for Sport and Volunteering Dr. Christiane Schenderlein of Germany, during the FIFA World Cup 2026™ in Toronto.

highlighted opportunities to further develop sport in both countries and advance shared sporting priorities. They underscored the value of deepening cooperation in sport as a way of strengthening bilateral ties and supporting long-term growth in sport.Secretary of State van Koeverden and State Minister for Sport and Volunteering Dr. Christiane Schenderlein of Germany noted the strong bilateral relationship between Canada and Germany, as well as opportunities for collaboration in sport development. Both emphasized the importance of exchanging best practices to encourage greater participation and strengthen sport systems in their respective countries.
Both ministers also extended congratulations to Canada’s Men’s National Team on its historic first World Cup win.
