On September 1, 2025, inmate Carolyn Burden was apprehended by the Toronto Police Service.
This inmate had been unlawfully at large from the Minimum-Security Unit at Grand Valley Institution for Women since August 31, 2025.
The Correctional Service of Canada and Grand Valley Institution for Women are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Ensuring the safety and security of institutions, staff, and the public remains the highest priority in the operations of the federal correctional system.
