The provincial government wishes students well as they begin the school year

September 3, 2025

Canada - The provincial government wishes students a good school year and welcomes teachers, administrators and school staff returning to Newfoundland and Labrador schools.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has been working with teachers, school staff and families of students affected by the destruction of Cabot Academy School during the Western Bay wildfire to ensure their needs are met as the school year

begins. The ministry will continue to support families as needed to ensure students have the best possible educational experience.

A total of 400 additional teaching positions have been added in the K-12 school systeme year, and class sizes in 1re to the 9the year has decreased. Both initiatives are designed to better meet the needs of students and to encourage their participation and success from the beginning of their school career.

Students from kindergarten to 12e will return to or begin attending one of the more than 250 schools across the province, with the team of teachers, administration and support staff happy to welcome them.

"
Today is a great day for students, parents, teachers and school staff. The teaching staff has been diligently preparing for a successful school year. I know this school year will be different for the students, teachers and school staff at Cabot Academy, but please know that your new schools are eager to welcome you. I encourage every student to do their best and thank the teachers and parents who helped lay the foundation for a successful school year."
The Honourable Bernard Davis
Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development
