Government Action Plan to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion 2024-2029 - Moissonneurs Solidaires: nearly $900,000 to foster hope and mutual aid

QUÉBEC CITYSept. 2, 2025 /CNW/ - To improve access to healthy food and strengthen the capacity of the community sector, the Minister responsible for Social Solidarity and Community Action, Chantal Rouleau, is granting $884,642 in funding to Moissonneurs Solidaires. This investment is in line with the objective of the Plan to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion, which aims to support concrete initiatives that meet the real needs of vulnerable people.

For several years, Moissonneurs Solidaires has distinguished itself by its commitment to

making fresh food more accessible to people living in poverty. By developing a vegetable supply solution for food banks, the organization is helping to promote healthy and local eating. Its agricultural activities also act as a lever for inclusion, offering concrete opportunities for social reintegration that underpin the fight against poverty.

With this funding, the organization will be able to launch a new greenhouse and develop educational and community activities that encourage healthy eating habits and knowledge sharing. In addition, Moissonneurs Solidaires intends to develop a new sustainable offer of fresh vegetables to support the activities of the Food Banks of Quebec (FBQ) network and the Breakfast Club of Canada. The organization will invest more than $200,000 in this project, which has a total budget of more than $1.1 million.

Quotes

"With Moissonneurs Solidaires, we see concretely how an idea that is well rooted in the field can transform lives. This is not just food aid, it is a new way of acting, together, to rethink the way we feed communities and have a real impact on the daily lives of the most vulnerable people. This project is fully in line with our strategy, which aims to go beyond the purchase of food for the networks we support. This kind of initiative inspires, gives hope, and paves the way for a more just and inclusive society. »

Chantal Rouleau, Minister responsible for Social Solidarity and Community Action

"I am pleased that this amount has been granted to Moissonneurs Solidaires. The organization will be able to pursue its mission and the activities of its farm in the municipality of Lotbinière and thus better meet the growing food needs of vulnerable people. This is great news for the region and for the entire province. »

Isabelle Lecours, Member of Parliament for Lotbinière-Frontenac

"Since its creation in 2007, Moissonneurs Solidaires has been a leading partner of the FBQ network, it is with joy and gratitude that we welcomed the Ministry's response to our request for funding, which will make it possible to implement additional actions aimed at increasing the capacity to act with regard to the phenomenon of food insecurity."
