Statement by the Official Opposition Critic for Youth Protection

QUÉBEC CITYSept. 3, 2025 /CNW/ - Coroner's report on the death of the Granby girl

"Another damning report on the flaws of the DYP that shocks me appallingly. This report is a stark reminder of the seriousness of the gaps in our "safety net" to ensure the physical and psychological protection of our children.

Despite the many troubling clues and red flags, no one has seen fit to take charge of the situation.

How many other children are there right now who are caught up in this senseless turbulence? There is a serious lack of coherence between the actors who intervene with children to ensure their well-being, health and safety.

When are we really going to prioritize the best interests of our children who need our support, care and protection?

I hope that the 12 recommendations of the Coroner will awaken the minds and consciences of all those who work with children. We remember that the Laurent Commission was created precisely following this tragic death and yet, the majority of the recommendations in its report have still not been implemented by the CAQ government. What does the responsible minister expect?

We have to work together. Our children deserve better. »

-Brigitte B. Garceau, Official Opposition Critic for Youth Protection and Member of Parliament for Robert-Baldwin
