The former Chinese hospital will make way for a social housing project

The Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough council authorized the demolition of the former Chinese hospital and entrusted the development of a social housing project on the site to Maison St-Dominique.

The site of the former Chinese hospital, located at 7500 Saint-Denis Street, was acquired by the City of Montreal in 2019 to develop social, affordable and family housing.

To support this initiative, the Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough council authorized the demolition of the building to allow the construction of a residential building with a maximum height of six storeys housing social or affordable housing outside the market. Demolition is deemed necessary due to the condition of the building and the high costs to rehabilitate it.

The borough council also granted a financial contribution of $50,000 to Maison St-Dominique to develop a social housing project on the site. This support will allow the organization to properly structure the pre-development phase of the project, build strong partnerships and mobilize the resources necessary for its completion in the context of a housing crisis.
