QUÉBEC CITY, Sept. 3, 2025 /CNW/ - The Minister of Health, Christian Dubé, announced that the Government of Québec today appointed Dr. Caroline Quach-Thanh as the new National Director of Public Health and Assistant Deputy Minister of Prevention and Public Health at the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS).
Dr. Quach-Thanh will succeed the current national director of public health, Dr. Luc Boileau, on September 29. The government would like to acknowledge Dr. Boileau's expertise, which has been a considerable asset in the management of the pandemic, as well as during the post-crisis period, not to mention the many other major issues and changes in which his commitment has been decisive, such as the National Health Prevention Strategy and the National Public Health Program. He will continue his career in the field of public health as a medical specialist.
Dr. Quach-Thanh was chosen following a demanding and rigorous appointment process that
began last spring and was finalized in June. Dr. Quach-Thanh's expertise and experience make her the perfect person to hold this important position in Quebec. She began her career at the Montreal Children's Hospital and McGill University in the Department of Pediatrics from 2003 to 2016, before continuing her career as a full professor in the Departments of Microbiology, Infectious Diseases, Immunology and Pediatrics at the Université de Montréal. A microbiologist and infectious disease specialist at the CHU Sainte-Justine, she is also an associate professor in the Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health at McGill University. Dr. Quach-Thanh has served as Chair of the Public Health Agency of Canada's National Advisory Committee on Immunization and is the current Chair of the Quebec Immunization Committee.Quotation:
"I would like to thank Dr. Boileau for all the work he has done over the past few years, particularly during the pandemic and more recently, in the development of the first-ever national health prevention strategy. I am very grateful to have been able to count on his expertise and valuable contribution over the past few years. I also congratulate Dr. Quach-Thanh on her appointment. I am convinced that she will be able to advise and guide the teams with leadership and passion. Prevention is at the heart of our strategic vision for a healthy Quebec, and as part of her mandate as National Director of Public Health, Dr. Quach-Thanh will contribute to the continuation of efforts in this regard."
Christian Dubé, Minister of Health
